Very Anything

Very Anything

I'm not over keen on anybody who is very anything.
very Welsh
very Loud
very Proud
Maybe because I used to be
and I don't want to be the person I used to see
in the bathroom mirror.
The face that I used to punch with my own fists
to stop the thoughts that I couldn't erase.
That was then and this is now.
I still have the furrowed brow,
 testament
to the incessant intrusions
that would bombard me and be alleviated
temporarily by the drugs and booze.
In your twenties and thirties,
you're swimming through treacle
and the secret is
'To Just Let Go'
So if you see anybody
who is very anything,
You'll know
that
it's all an act
all a show.
