Ok so nobody died and I am meant to be in a grateful mood today BUT I have just tried to get home on the sidewalk passed the Millennium Stadium which I do often and the gates are locked and no access was allowed. I wasn't the only one. There was no sign on Canton Bridge informing citizens of this and I can only surmise that Rhianna was still inside the stadium after her concert last night propping up the bar in a Welsh Three Feathers Jersey, Fishnets and high heels and drinking a pint of sponsors Brains! What other reason could there be? A lady with two saddlebags was close to collapse. "I left my bike at the station" she said. "I'll take a couple of photos" I said "and highlight it in my blog, for I am the Shark Fisherman, whose job it is to highlight incompetence in high places". She looked non-plussed. We informed people walking down that the gates were shut but had there been a sign telling us that Rhianna was still inside, it would have been most helpful.
Writing this, a lightbulb has gone off above my head because I have realised that there is something about gates and doors (central library) that bar my path which take on a significance. They are metaphors for the institutions and people that have blocked me in the past. I do not appreciate being blocked or stopped. I certainly would not appreciate being stopped and searched. So being stopped by the W.R.U or the Millennium Stadium is not an experience that I relish. It was 4.30pm. The Rhianna, lovely girl that she is, was last night. It's not as if its much of a short cut, it just saves crossing Canton Bridge and walking down the more populous Taff Trail passing the 'Noson Drwg' Hotel, the one with the broken glass in its front door. It could be because the Stadium Manager has just announced his leaving and the staff couldn't be bothered. Many people confronted with locked gates would choose to climb over or around them but I wasn't pissed, so I didn't bother. Somebody who did a few years back slipped and fell and died in the Taff!
So the Shark Fisherman's work here is done. Once again an injustice has been highlighted.
Sort your signage out and open your gates oh Temple to King Ra....Rugby! I'm probably rather a rude boy for even mentioning this!
